President Lula (PT) resumed campaign promises, such as picanha for the population, and cursed the suspect of harassing STF (Federal Supreme Court) Minister Alexandre de Moraes during a speech this Sunday (23) in São Bernardo do Campo (SP).
The statements were made at an inauguration event for the new board of directors of the ABC Metalworkers Union, headed by Moisés Selerges.
On the platform, Lula said it was necessary to recover civility in the country after the defeat of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and recalled the case of hostility related to the magistrate.
“At the airport in Rome, there was a scoundrel who not only cursed him [Moraes] how he hit his son,” said Lula, recalling that Gilberto Kassab’s PSD expelled the suspect.
Businessman Roberto Mantovani and his family are investigated in the case. They claim that there was a mix-up unrelated to the minister and that Mantovani removed the magistrate’s son after insulting his wife.
“We defeated Bolsonaro, but we haven’t defeated Bolsonarists yet. The crazy people are on the street, offending people, cursing people. And we’re going to tell them that we want to make this country civilized again”, he said.
Lula was accompanied by his wife, Janja, ministers such as Márcio França (Ports and Airports), Silvio Almeida (Human Rights), Márcio Macedo (General Secretariat of the Presidency) and the PT president, Gleisi Hoffmann.
In a rally atmosphere for an audience of supporters and old acquaintances, Lula recounted stories from his time as a trade unionist and repeated campaign promises again.
“We are going to make it possible for the people to eat the picanha that had disappeared,” he said, to applause from the audience. “I promised, there are many people who don’t know how fond people are of picanha, but a picanha at the weekend, with family together, friends, and a cold beer is all we want”.
Lula stated in his speech that the worker must have purchasing power to obtain the products he produces, including buying a car and traveling by plane.
The president also said he had spoken with Pope Francis about a worldwide campaign against inequality. “It is necessary to end inequality in the world,” he said, citing racial, gender, education and health inequality, among others.
“There are people looking for space to live on the moon and there are people who don’t have space to live here on Earth,” he said.
Before the event, the president was at the Sírio-Libanês hospital for an infiltration procedure due to pain in the hip region. According to the presidency’s press office, he will undergo a “scheduled surgery” later this year.
