Lula receives Pacheco to discuss the processing of economic agendas

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received this Friday (3) the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), at Palácio do Planalto. The meeting, at first, was not on the Chief Executive’s official agenda. The two discussed the progress of economic agendas in Congress, such as tax reform and projects to increase revenue.
Pacheco committed to helping the government with economic issues, reported the Power360. The meeting takes place after the Senate imposed a defeat on the Lula government. On October 25, senators vetoed the appointment of Igor Roque Albuquerque to head the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU). Furthermore, Pacheco annulled the sending of the three names indicated by Planalto and approved by the House to fill vacancies at the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) to investigate suspicions of favoritism.
Pacheco’s act does not annul the approval of the names, which will occupy the positions of ministers in the STJ, but the Senate Advocacy will investigate the episode. Last week, the president stated that it would be difficult for him to meet the fiscal target of zero deficit established by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. After the PT member’s statement, Pacheco defended Haddad and said that going “against the direction” of the fiscal target determinations “would put the country on a dangerous path”.
After meeting with the president of the Senate, the PT member received Haddad, this evening, at the Palácio da Alvorada. Next Wednesday (8), the expectation is that Lula will talk to Senate leaders.
