President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) officially appointed lawyer Cristiano Zanin to the position of Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The appointment was published this Wednesday (5) as a decree in the Official Gazette.
Zanin had the nomination approved by the Senate last month after an almost eight-hour sabbath and the favorable votes of 58 senators in the plenary.
“The President of the Republic […] decides to nominate Cristiano Zanin Martins to hold the position of Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, in the vacancy resulting from the retirement of Minister Enrique Ricardo Lewandowski”, signed Lula in the diary (see in full).
Zanin’s inauguration in office was scheduled for the 3rd of August. The lawyer and now minister of the STF is 47 years old and will be able to work on the Court for 28 years. The compulsory retirement of ministers of the Supreme occurs at the age of 75.
