Lula opposes the installation of CPI to investigate attacks – 01/18/2023 – Politics

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Wednesday (18) that he will not support the creation of a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) to investigate the coup acts, which ended with the invasion and destruction of the headquarters of the three Powers.

The installation of a commission has been publicly defended by PT members and allies, and one of the requests in this regard in the Senate already has the necessary signatures for the opening.

In justifying his position, Lula stated that a CPI at this moment could “cause tremendous confusion”

On the 8th, supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) promoted a large coup act in Brasília. They invaded the National Congress, the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court, leaving a trail of vandalism.

In response to the acts, initiatives emerged in the National Congress to investigate the events within the parliament, to identify the authors, creators and financiers.

The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), stated that the installation of a CPI was “very pertinent”.

Lula, however, was against it, arguing that investigations are already being carried out by the competent authorities.

“We have instruments to monitor what happened in this country. A commission of inquiry may not help and it may create tremendous confusion. We don’t need it now,” he said in an interview with GloboNews.

Lula then explained that the security forces are already advancing in the investigations and mentioned the number of prisoners for involvement in the act.

On the other hand, the president emphasized that the decision belongs to the National Congress, but that, if asked for his advice, he would say: “don’t do CPI, because it won’t help”.
