President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) published a video, on Sunday night (7/1), recalling the acts of vandalism to the Three Powers that occurred a year ago. He mentioned that January 8, 2023 is a date that should never be forgotten. “The day that some irresponsible people attempted a coup in this country”, wrote Lula.

Despite the attacks, Lula highlighted that “the Three Powers stood out and democracy won”.

“And, tomorrow, this January 8th, when this sad episode turns one year old, we will shout loud and clear: freedom, freedom, spread your wings over us. And long live democracy!”, he said.

This Monday (8/1), the government will promote a ceremony to commemorate one year of the attacks on the National Congress. The event will start at 3pm and will feature speeches from the heads of the Three Powers, the presidents of the Chamber and Senate, as well as other authorities.

Around 500 people were invited, including government ministers, ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), heads of courts, parliamentarians, governors and other authorities.

The event would be called “Restored Democracy”, after the dissatisfaction of congressmen, Lula, then, renamed the act as “Unshakable Democracy”, a slogan that the STF had used in an institutional campaign in 2023.

A ceremony is also planned at the Supreme Court, at 2pm this Monday, led by the president of the STF, minister Luís Roberto Barroso.
