President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had a private meeting this Tuesday morning (2) with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), at the Alvorada Palace. The meeting, according to government allies, was to discuss political articulation and the vote on the Fake News Bill in the House Plenary.

The meeting with Lula takes place after the president of the Chamber criticized the government’s articulation in Congress. For Lira, the Executive needs to improve its “political gear”, consolidate a support base in the Chamber, and make “things move forward”.

The federal government tries to approve projects of interest to be processed in Congress, such as the new fiscal framework project, and especially, the Fake News PL. In addition, President Lula also monitors the composition of the CPMI on January 8, which has already been created and is awaiting the nomination of its members by the party leaders. The government wants allies in the commission’s main positions: presidency and rapporteurship.

Another priority theme for the government in the Chamber is the design of the new fiscal framework – a rule that will replace the spending ceiling. The forecast is that this text will be analyzed later this month in the House, to then be sent to the Senate.

At the end of the meeting, which lasted about 40 minutes, Lira left without speaking to the press. He soon participates in more than one lunch with party leaders to define whether the project will remain on the voting agenda or not, depending on the number of votes.
