President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) made a mistake when explaining how the resumption of the Minha Casa Minha Vida (MCMV) program is being carried out, which was sanctioned this Thursday (13). During an interview with TV Recordhe said that the government has already started to rebuild 186 million houses that were with the works stopped, but it was corrected later.
“We are launching another 2 million homes in these next three years, and we have already started to rebuild 186 million homes that we found paralyzed”, he said.
Shortly afterwards, the Secretary of Communication (Secom) of the Palácio do Planalto published on the internet the excerpt of the speech with the correct number: “we have already started to rebuild 186 thousand houses that we found paralyzed”.
Lula’s failure occurred at a time when he was questioned whether the MCMV would be enough to solve the housing deficit problem, which has six million people homeless. He did not respond directly, and only spoke about the resumption of the program and the works he intends to do.
“In our government alone, we built four million houses. It was the largest housing program in that country. Now, we’re launching another two million homes over the next three years, and we’ve already started rebuilding 186,000 homes that we found at a standstill. Because, in Brazil, we found 14,000 works stopped, 4,000 works were for schools, among these 4,000 works, 1,600 were nurseries. So, we are rebuilding this country”, he said.
He amended the talk about the housing deficit with the announcement of a new version of the PAC, which should be launched shortly in partnership with governors and mayors. According to Secom, the program “will discuss total infrastructure, infrastructure of ports, airports. It will discuss roads, railways, basic sanitation, it will discuss Minha Casa, Minha Vida. It is a New PAC, with much more, more content, more works ” and should be released at the end of the month.
