When leaving the luxury hotel where he is staying in Manhattan, in the USA, to fulfill his agenda, last Sunday (17), President Lula (PT) was harassed by Brazilians shouting “thief”, “communist” and “ cachaceiro”. The PT member is in New York to participate in the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

In videos circulating on social media, it is possible to see the moment in which Lula is approached by Brazilians while he is protected by security and hurriedly heads to his car.

“Lula, thief, you belong in prison”, says a Brazilian woman. “How is it in Cuba?” asks another protester.

Lula arrived in New York last Saturday night (16), after participating in the G77 + China Summit, in Havana, the capital of Cuba, where he had a private meeting with the Cuban dictator, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

When speaking at the G77, Lula condemned the economic embargo imposed on Cuba by the USA. The PT member also took the opportunity to pay a “personal visit” to the former Cuban dictator, Raúl Castro. The commitment was not part of the official agenda.

According to the communications department at Palácio do Planalto, the PT member will have a closed meeting with US President Joe Biden next Wednesday (20), the same day he will also participate in the launch of a northern government program -American in compliance with the UN 2030 Agenda.

This will be the second meeting of the presidents since Lula assumed his third term. The two met in February, when they discussed combating climate change.
