Lula is discharged from surgery and will leave Alvorada

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was discharged this Sunday (1/10) and left the Sírio Libanês hospital in Brasília, around 4pm, after being hospitalized for 3 days as a result of hip surgery to treat a condition osteoarthritis that has been affecting him for months. He also underwent a blepharoplasty – a procedure to remove excess skin from his eyelids.
According to the medical bulletin, Lula “is discharged from hospital and will continue in outpatient rehabilitation under the care of the medical teams of Prof. Dr. Roberto Kalil, Dr. Ana Helena Germoglio and Prof. Dr. Giancarlos Cavalli Polesello.”
The PT president left the hospital accompanied by first lady Janja Silva and is expected to remain at Palácio do Alvorada for 3 weeks, where he will continue undergoing physiotherapy and issuing government decisions.
On social media, the PT member thanked the prayers and stated that he wanted to “run a marathon”. “I was discharged and I’m already at Palácio da Alvorada, where I’ll be working in the coming weeks. Thank you for the prayers and all the messages of affection. I’m recovering to work even harder for Brazil and run a marathon”, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter)
Lula plans to resume his international commitments at the end of November, with a trip to the United Arab Emirates to participate in COP 28, before returning to fulfill his agenda in Germany.
