Lula ignores promise, repeats Bolsonaro and uses official live for attacks

Brasilia DF) – President Lula (PT) used part of his live broadcast this Monday (19) to attack his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), and his political group, returning to use the term “fascist”.

Lula thus breaks with the promise made by his government, that the lives would only have an institutional character and that they would in no way resemble Bolsonaro’s broadcasts, who used this medium to spread fake news and attack his opponents.

Lula held his second live broadcast on social media this Monday morning (19), which was named Conversation with the President by the government.

Live broadcasts were scheduled to take place weekly on Tuesdays. The president, however, leaves this Monday for Europe, for an official trip to Italy and France.

As in the first Conversation with the President, Lula was interviewed by journalist Marcos Uchôa, from EBC (Empresa Brasil de Comunicação).

When the plan to carry out lives was initially disclosed, Secom (Secretary of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic) sought to rule out the possibility of copying the model used by Bolsonaro.

The then president used his space to spread fake news, question the effectiveness of vaccines and the safety of electronic voting machines and, in every episode, he attacked another political opponent.

The format used by Lula, being interviewed by a journalist, aims to give an institutional character to the broadcast, keeping the focus on the government’s achievements and plans. The first episode followed this model exactly, with no mention of opponents.

However, at the conclusion of the second broadcast, Lula launched a series of attacks on Bolsonaro and his allies, even without being asked about it.

The interviewer had asked him about his phone call the day before to congratulate former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso on his 92nd birthday.

Lula then added that he also invited former President José Sarney to inaugurate the North-South railroad, as he was the representative who started the work in the 1980s.

“I think that we are living in a world that whenever we can show our attitude of fraternity, love, kindness, solidarity, we have to do it. Because it is necessary to end this climate of hatred that was created in the world, and in Brazil”,

said the president.

“The fascists have already proven that they tried to carry out a coup coordinated by the former president, which he is now trying to deny. But when he lost the elections he was locked inside the house to prepare the coup.”

“So I think we’re going to investigate this very calmly. Everyone will have a chance to defend themselves. So I want people to rest assured that we are going to investigate. Whoever is at fault in the notary will have to pay”,

completed the president.

The interviewer then tried to change the subject, talking about recovering the good relationship he maintains with FHC and Sarney, which is the “normal politics”. But Lula ignored the cue and returned to attack Bolsonaro.
We will not put up with people who tried to coup and destroy democracy in the country.

“I talked with Sarney, with Itamar [Franco], with Collor. Now you have a citizen who doesn’t want to talk to anyone, he just wants to transmit lies, fake news, he just wants to talk nonsense and aggression against others. In other words, this has to end, because this country has to go back to enjoying peace”,

Afterwards, when talking about the economic situation, Lula also criticized the high interest rate, which has become a constant in his speeches. But he took the opportunity to directly mention the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto.

“The president of the Central Bank needs to explain, not to me, because I already know that it does not go down, but he needs to explain to the Brazilian people and the Senate that elected him why he maintains this rate of 13.75% for a country with annual inflation of 5%.”
