Lula government will relaunch plan to combat deforestation to mark 100 days – 03/04/2023 – Panel

One of the actions that the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) should include in the commemoration of the 100 days of his administration is the PPCDAm (Action Plan for the Prevention and Combat of Deforestation in the Amazon).
It is a reformulation of the plan elaborated in 2004, when the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, was responsible for this agenda in the first Lula administration.
Already on January 1, the president set up a commission with 19 folders to rebuild actions and reorganize what would have been dismantled during the management of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
According to sources who participated in the construction of the plan, it focuses on strategies for monitoring and valuing the forest.
The idea is that in the coming months similar plans will be drawn up for the other Brazilian biomes.
This is one of the recycled actions from Lula’s first terms that should be among the actions of the first 100 days. With a tight budget, ministers dedicated themselves to what they have been calling “reconstruction” of structuring policies adopted in previous PT administrations.
President Lula met this Monday (3) with his ministers and demanded deliveries and disclosure of the actions of their respective ministries. Next Monday (10), when the government reaches 100 days, there should be a new ministerial meeting to present what has been done so far.
The exact format of the event has not yet been decided, but government officials say that the main announcements should be saved to be made on another occasion. As Lula travels to China the following day, the assessment is that the international agenda, given its importance, tends to deflate any new, more robust action by the federal administration.
