Lula government exonerates 58 more GSI employees – 04/27/2023 – Power

The federal government announced this Thursday (27) the dismissal of another 58 servants from the GSI (Institutional Security Office). The body went into crisis after the release of images of former minister Gonçalves Dias inside the Palácio do Planalto at the time when vandals were destroying the place, on January 8.

On Wednesday (26), another 29 employees had already been dismissed, including 24 from the Armed Forces.

The secretaries of Defense Affairs and National Security, Brigadier Max Moreira, of Security and Presidential Coordination, General Marcius Netto, and of Systems Coordination, Rear Admiral, Marcelo Gomes, left the government.

Also exonerated were the director of the Department of Defense and National Security Affairs, Colonel Ivan Karpischin, five supervisors and five other assistants.

The dismissals occur amid a dispute in the government over keeping a military man or placing a civilian at the head of the GSI after the departure of General Gonçalves Dias.

The assistants who defend keeping the ministry under the command of the military believe that this is the alternative that will bring less trauma and political noise. Members of the government who defend a civilian at the head of the body support a complete restructuring of the ministry.

Among those fired are remnants of the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Marcius Netto, for example, already held a management position at GSI in the previous management. Lula kept him in office and, a few weeks after the January 8 attacks, just reassigned him to another directorship.

He took over the GSI’s Secretariat for Security and Presidential Coordination on January 24, stepping down as head of the Planning and Management Office of the General Department of Personnel.

The other exonerates are from the Military Police and the Fire Department of the Federal District, in addition to a civilian.
