Lula government exonerates 29 GSI agents – 04/26/2023 – Power

The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) made official the departure of 29 agents from the GSI (Institutional Security Office), after the crisis over the dissemination of images that resulted in the fall of Minister Gonçalves Dias. 3 of the 4 national secretaries of the folder were dismissed

The dismissals were announced on Wednesday afternoon (26) by the agency’s interim minister, Ricardo Cappelli.

Also on Wednesday, the Official Gazette published the exoneration of Colonel José Henrique Luz Fontes, who had been acting as chief of staff for the then executive secretary and number 2 of the GSI, General Ricardo José Nigri.

General Nigri was also exonerated along with Minister Gonçalves Dias, in the wake of the release of the January 8 images. Colonel José Henrique Luz Fontes had held the position since February 2022, that is, still under Bolsonaro’s management.

According to the publication in the Official Gazette, the colonel left the position at the request.

Before the new exonerations, the Lula government claimed to have already promoted the exchange of 35% of the staff of the GSI, a body that has become closely associated with former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) over the last four years. The interim minister of the portfolio, Ricardo Cappelli, had been saying in recent days that Lula had asked him to speed up changes in the ministry.

The representative is on a trip to Europe and should return on Wednesday night. Lula and his assistants will make a decision about the future of the GSI after his return, defining the name of the minister and the attributions of the organ, which ended up dehydrated, without the attribution of providing Lula’s personal security, in addition to losing command of the Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency), which passed to the Civil House.

Last week, CNN Brasil released images of the internal security circuit of the Palácio do Planalto on January 8, which shows the then Minister Gonçalves Dias in the premises of the historic building and the performance of GSI agents.

Some of these agents guide and even offer water to the invaders.

The dissemination of the images led to the downfall of Minister Gonçalves Dias, known as GDias, a long-time ally of Lula, who was responsible for his security in his first two terms.
