President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) criticized this Friday (8) the PT’s “internal fights” during the party’s electoral conference for the 2024 elections. the “basework” to be able to elect more candidates in the next election.
“Why was the party only able to elect 70 deputies? Why so little if we are so good? We need to find the answer within ourselves. Are we having the competence to convince the people of our truths or do we have to understand with the people how to talk to them, how to talk to evangelicals,” he said.
In the 2022 campaign, Lula even published the so-called “letter to evangelicals” to try to grow in the religious segment, which was closer to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The PT member stated that the party “has the conditions” to have candidates for mayor, but must choose “the best” to contest the elections. “It can’t be the PT’s internal fights, we have to choose the best, the one who will best defend the party… Money is important, but grassroots work doesn’t have money to buy it,” he said.
2024 election will be “Lula x Bolsonaro” in municipalities, says president
During the speech, the Chief Executive also stated that the 2024 elections will be polarized, with the return of “Lula x Bolsonaro” in the municipalities. The president appealed to the militants not to be “afraid” and to seek to reinforce the “basic work” to strengthen the PT bench.
“I honestly think that this upcoming election will be Lula x Bolsonaro again, contesting these elections in the municipalities. And you know that you cannot accept provocations, be afraid, be ashamed, tuck your tail between your legs”, he said.
“We will have to show that we want to exercise democracy and make the elections as competitive as possible, but we will not be afraid of anyone. The only fear we have to have is betraying the hope, the expectation that the Brazilian people has in the PT, in our allies and in our candidates”, he pointed out.
