Lula closes 2nd day in Japan with meeting with German premier

Hiroshima (Japan) – The second day of the visit of the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to Japan ended with a dinner offered by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida this Saturday (20) to the leaders participating in the G7 summit. Before Lula, he met with the Prime Minister of Germany, Olaf Scholz.

The two discussed paving the way for the reconstitution of peace in Ukraine and the environmental agenda. They also agreed on the second edition of the Brazil-Germany High Level Intergovernmental Consultations, scheduled for December 4, in Berlin.

The consultations consist of biannual meetings between the heads of government of the two countries, accompanied by high-ranking members of their cabinets. The objective is to evaluate and promote partnerships, identify areas for cooperation and deepen the dialogue on topics on the global agenda.

In his profile on the social network Twitter, Lula wrote that it was a pleasure to meet Scholz again. “We have already been together this year in Brazil, and now, in Japan, we reaffirm the resumption of good relations between our countries, with dialogue and cooperation”.

The meeting with Scholz was the last of a full day in Hiroshima, where Lula is participating in the G7 summit, as head of government of one of the eight invited countries. The Brazilian president participated in two meetings with leaders from 14 other countries and the European Union, in addition to having bilateral meetings with Kishida; with the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo; with the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, and with the French president, Emmanuel Macron.

“Many important dialogues on this return of our country to a G7 meeting. Tomorrow there’s more!”, Lula wrote on Twitter, commenting on the meetings this Saturday.

With Macron, Lula talked about protecting the Amazon, the war in Ukraine, cooperation in defense and expanding exchanges in the area of ​​culture. After the meeting, the French president published, on his Twitter profile, about relations between Brazil and France.

“In Paris, in June; at the G20 in India in September; and then in Brazil, next year; let’s forge a financial pact against poverty, for the climate and for nature”, wrote Macron, whose message was retweeted by the Brazilian president, with a Portuguese version for the text.

Third day

Lula arrived in Japan on Friday (19). The third day of the trip to Japan foresees new bilateral meetings and another G7 meeting. The agenda begins at 8:30 pm this Saturday at Brasilia time (8:30 am on Sunday at Hiroshima time), with a visit by the G7 leaders and invited countries to the Peace Memorial Park, a monument to the victims of the American nuclear bombing of the Japanese city on Monday World War.

After the visit, he has bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and India, Narendra Modi. Then he has the third working session of the G7, with the theme Towards a peaceful, stable and prosperous world.

Early on Sunday (afternoon in Japan), Lula has meetings with the secretary general of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres; with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh; with the president of the Comoros Islands, Azali Assoumani; and with Japanese business conglomerates and bank financing.
