Lula calls for completion of railroad before 2027

On a visit to Bahia, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) launched, this Monday (3), the start of works on Lot 1F of Section 1 of the West-East Integration Railroad (Fiol). During the speech, the PT member asked Bamin entrepreneurs – responsible for the stretch between Ilhéus and Caetité – to work harder, so that the work is delivered before 2027.

“I, in 2010, imagined that this railroad had already been inaugurated. It was supposed to be inaugurated before 2023, but fate wanted the people of Bahia to elect me again, so that we could take back this railroad and complete it”, began Lula.

“I would like to ask fellow entrepreneurs who are in this endeavor: stop saying that you will deliver it in 2027. You have to deliver it before December 31, 2026. Work a little overtime, work on the weekend, if necessary. necessary, so that we can inaugurate it soon, otherwise we run the risk of another bad thing coming back in this country and it being stopped again. We will try to work on this work soon”,

added.

According to Planalto, the work will result in a corridor for the flow of ore from the southern region of the state and grain from the western region. The stretch is the last of the four that make up the West-East Integration Railway and is expected to be completed in 2027.

The railroad will be 537 km long and will pass through 19 municipalities. Lot 1F alone is 127 km long and runs through Ilhéus, Uruçuca, Ubaitaba, Gongogi, Itagibá, Aurelino Leal and Aiquara. The works on lot 1F have an initial investment of R$ 1.5 billion.

During the speech, Lula also emphasized the importance of building more railroads in the country.

“We have to fulfill what we put on paper. It is in the national interest that we build more railroads in the country. It is not in the interest of one or another businessman, but in the interest of national sovereignty for us to build this railroad and others in the country, so that we can make this country competitive”,
