Lula calls “cowards” those who carry guns in the streets

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) once again criticized people who carry guns on the streets and stated that weapons only serve organized crime. The statements were given during the weekly live broadcast exceptionally this Monday (14), as the president will be traveling to Paraguay on Tuesday (15) for the inauguration of president-elect Santiago Peña.

The speech in which he called them a “coward” was given during an explanation about what would be a lack of empathy from people on the streets, moments of traffic fight, family, among others. According to Lula, “Brazil was not like that”, and it started to have more conflicts “after someone appeared wanting to arm the Brazilian people”.

“Who wants to buy a gun? It’s organized crime and some people who don’t want to do anyone any good. I don’t want to have a gun in the house to do good. If I have a gun in the house, it’s to get rid of someone”, said Lula.

According to him, people who own or carry weapons do it to show themselves “powerful”.

“Not true, you are a coward. Anyone who carries a gun is a coward, he’s afraid. If you’re not afraid, you’re good, you don’t have to carry a gun”, she shot.

For Lula, this type of behavior began to occur because of “people who have a ‘little demon’ inside who are radicalizing, cursing and offending people, wishing death to the person”. “These people have to be banned from politics, they have to be ostracized, they are not healthy in democracy”, she added.

Still during the live, Lula took stock of the Amazon Summit and the launch of the New PAC, held last week; she commented on Russia’s war against Ukraine, which she called “a lack of humility” on both sides to sit down and negotiate an end to the conflict; and the political articulation with Congress, in which she acknowledged once again that she does not have a majority to pass the projects that she considers priorities.
