Recommendations

In a ministerial meeting, Lula demanded the fulfillment of promises

In a meeting with his team of ministers this Monday morning (18), in Brasília, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received an overview of the main results of the first year of government and made recommendations so that the announced and recreated actions begin to take effect. be perceived by the population. The meeting, which began around 9am, at Palácio do Planalto, ended shortly after 2pm.

In the first part of the meeting, Lula stated that “there is still a lot to be done” and criticized the previous government for having abandoned the population, in addition to attempting a coup d’état. The president then followed the balance sheets presented by ministers Rui Costa (Civil House) and Fernando Haddad (Finance).

In a press conference after the end of the meeting, the head of the Civil House highlighted that the president wants to focus on the programs that have already been launched, and that there should be no announcement of new actions now, but the implementation of the promised measures. Furthermore, according to Rui Costa, the population needs to be well informed, through comparative data, about the government’s results.

“What the president asked, in the second stage of the meeting, is that each minister seeks to revisit everything he has launched, as he does not want to see new programs or new actions announced. You have to implement what was launched, which already has a very robust portfolio. And that we try to aggregate, in indicators that are understood by the population, the results of the government, the results of the economy, the results of the things we are doing”, he observed.

Government assessment

During the press conference, journalists questioned the ministers about recent surveys that showed a drop in the President of the Republic’s popularity, despite the good economic indicators obtained over the last year.

On the subject, the minister of the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, attributed the need for public policies to begin to appear, such as the construction of houses under the Minha Casa Minha Vida program and the beginning of new programs in the area of education, such as Pé-de-Meia (which grants scholarships to high school students).

“You can’t imagine that people will notice a real improvement in the quality of their lives until public policy arrives at the end. President Lula is very clear about this. We understand that, as public policies arrive and people’s lives actually improve, this perception will cause people’s confidence and feelings towards Brazil and the future to also change in a positive way” , he argued.

“These fluctuations in the government’s assessment are natural, anyone who has been in government knows this and, therefore, there is no surprise, no additional concern, just that everyone has, on the horizon, that it is necessary to funnel and organize deliveries from now on. ”, added Rui Costa.

During the week, Lula must follow a domestic travel schedule, to different states, to announce government deliveries and get closer to the population. There are plans, for example, for agendas in Tocantins and Goiás, states not yet visited by the president in his third term.
