Lula arrives in Brussels for CELAC Summit

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has arrived in Brussels, informed the press office of the Planalto Palace. Lula landed in the Belgian capital this Sunday (16th), to participate in the III Summit Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) – European Union (EU), which takes place on Monday (17th) and Tuesday (18).

According to the Presidency, the last meeting between the leaders of the two regions took place in 2015. “The meeting will provide an opportunity to resume high-level dialogue on topics of common interest and current challenges”, he said in a note. The expectation is that the Heads of State and Government or high-level representatives of the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and the 27 members of the European Union will participate in the meeting.

Still according to Planalto, among the themes of the discussions are climate change; trade and sustainable development; social inclusion; post-pandemic economic recovery; energy transition, digital transformation; migrations; reform of the international financial architecture; fight against organized crime; and development cooperation.

It is also expected that Lula will participate in the opening of the European Union – Latin America and Caribbean business table this Monday, the 17th. The event will bring together representatives of the private sector, financing banks and political leaders to “explore investment opportunities in priority areas such as renewable energy, transport, infrastructure, digitization and connectivity”informed the Brazilian Presidency.

“The European Union will take the opportunity to present its new investment agenda for Latin America, within the scope of the recently launched ‘Global Gateway Investment Agenda’ Strategy, focusing on the area of ​​green and digital transition”
