Presidents of Brazil and Angola participated in business forum

Brasilia DF) – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced this Friday (25th), in Luanda, capital of Angola, that Brazil will once again make large investments in the African continent. Lula and the Angolan president, João Lourenço, participated in the closing event of the business forum that brought together investors from both countries, organized by the Brazil-Angola Chamber of Commerce.

“Now, we are back in Africa to tell Brazilian businessmen, Angolans, that we are back for real. We are going to go back to financing African countries, Angola, which is a good payer of the things that Brazil has invested here”,

highlighted Lula, who received much applause during his speech.

“The return of Brazil to the African continent should not be a return, because we should never have left the African continent. Brazil has no idea how many things we can do. I think that Africa offers Brazil the opportunities that Brazil is looking for, sometimes, in other places”,

added the Brazilian president.

Earlier, in an extensive agenda in the country, Lula spoke at the National Assembly of Angola and met with the head of state of the country. Lula also announced a partnership to help develop agriculture in Angola.

In his speech, Angolan President João Lourenço invited Brazilian businessmen to invest in Africa in a “fearless way”. He mentioned a series of business opportunities that the country offers.

“We reiterate the invitation to Brazilian businessmen to invest in Angola in a fearless way. We are particularly interested in seeing Brazilian investors invest in agribusiness, in the tanning industry [couro]in the automobile industry, in the manufacture of implement tractors, in manures and fertilizers, in the production of solar panels, in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of medicines and vaccines, in the wood processing industries, in tourism, in real estate and in all other branches that are of your own interest”,

he said.

Angola is the only country on the continent, apart from South Africa, with which Brazil has a strategic partnership. The agreement was signed in 2010, during Lula’s second term.

President Lula arrived in the African continent on Monday (21). The first stop was in South Africa for the 15th Summit of Heads of State of the Brics, a group formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. (27), will be in São Tomé and Príncipe, to participate in the Conference of Heads of State of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
