Luís Roberto Barroso increases the number of auxiliary judges at the CNJ – 10/10/2023 – Frederico Vasconcelos

Minister Luís Roberto Barroso increased the number of assistant judges to the presidency of the CNJ (National Council of Justice). There were 20 during Rosa Weber’s management. Barroso has 27 assistant judges. Almost half of the team (13) worked with the minister.

Its purpose is to “strengthen the best that has already been done at the CNJ”, informs the press office.

In his inauguration speech at the Federal Supreme Court, Barroso said that two points will deserve his attention at the CNJ: increasing the participation of women in the courts and expanding racial diversity. Of the 27 assistant judges, 12 are women.

Federal judge Adriana Alves dos Santos Cruz, from TRF-2, will be general secretary of the CNJ. She was one of three black jurists suggested by the “Black Women Decide” movement to occupy a vacancy on the Supreme Court.

The general secretary is responsible for preparing the agenda. Adriana replaces judge Gabriel da Silveira Matos, who remains at the CNJ as one of Barroso’s assistant judges.

Judge Frederico Montedonio Rego, from TRF-2, will be the Secretary of Strategy and Projects. He is the author of the book “General repercussion: a reinterpretation of current law“, with a preface by Barroso and presentation by former PGR Inocêncio Mártires Coelho.

Johaness Eck will be the general director of the CNJ, a position he held during Weber’s administration. He specializes in public policy and government management.

According to the CNJ, the stay of some judges demonstrates Barroso’s concern that a complete renewal could affect the progress of the work. Practically all managers of the main units remain on the board. Many assistant judges will serve without prejudice in their jurisdictions.

Like his predecessor, Barroso was concerned with gender, racial and regional diversity, in addition to the experience of each person in their respective branches of Justice.

The first session of the CNJ with Barroso as president will be on the 17th.
