In a statement on the morning of this Wednesday, 31, on the program ‘LuizMeloEntrevista’ (Diário 90.9), senator Lucas Barreto he said, in relation to oil and gas prospecting and exploration off the coast of Amapá, that the job now is to overcome some resistance from Ibama and support Petrobras in carrying out the drilling.
The parliamentarian informed that after the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, anticipated, on Tuesday (30), that in six months the company will be starting studies on the Equatorial Margin, five hundred kilometers from the mouth of the Amazon river, the president of Ibama, Rodrigo Agostinho, commented that the institute will reform the impediment it made and authorize the activity, but without giving a deadline.
Lucas Barreto recalled that the federal bench of Amapá was committed to the reversal of Ibama’s decision, and that in the course of that time the Legislative Assembly of Amapá joined the fight, together with the City Council of Macapá. Both houses, unilaterally, held a Public Hearing against the prohibition of Petrobras’ activities on the Equatorial Margin.
“Now, we are working to overcome some resistance from Ibama, which may come, but at the same time we seek support for Petrobras to do the prospecting. The drillship was removed from the site because it has a very high maintenance cost, but it will return as soon as Ibama’s permission is announced”, predicted the senator.
