Lira: Theme of the ministerial reform is being run over – 07/24/2023 – Power

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), participated this Monday (24) in an event in São Paulo and spoke about the ministerial reform being prepared by the Lula government (PT).

Lira criticized the way the matter has been approached behind the scenes and said that this does not contribute to the governance of the federal government.

“I think that this subject is being, in a certain way, trampled on. This does not help with governance. And I think that the government has to help make it easier”, he said at the end of a lunch-debate by Lide – Group of Business Leaders.

Asked whether the deputy even met last week with President Lula to address the matter, Lira denied it. “It’s not a matter to deal with now. So it wasn’t scheduled [encontro para abordar o tema]”, he said.

“This is not a priority issue for the presidency of the Chamber. President Lula is imbued with resolving this issue. It has to be in the government’s time, in the way the government finds, and then he officially calls me,” he added.

The parliamentarian stated that he only had a meeting with the PT right after the approval of the Tax Reform in the Chamber. Lira then said that both dealt briefly with governance.

“The only thing I said is that the easier the government is in the plenary, the better for them and for me,” he declared. The deputy reiterated, however, that who has to build the governing base is the government itself.

The negotiation on the ministries that the PP and the Republicans will occupy in the Esplanada opened at the beginning of the month. About three weeks later, the negotiations made little progress after Lula’s return, who was traveling in Europe.

Both sides have stretched the rope. In the most recent movements, the government has signaled ministries smaller than Social Development. But the PP, from Lira, has said that, if it does not get Dias’ portfolio, it wants one of the same level or even higher, such as Health, National Integration and Mines and Energy.

DEMOCRACY PACKAGE

The president of the Chamber said he had not yet read the two bills signed by Lula that toughen the fight against crimes against democracy.

One of the projects, which were called the democracy package, proposes an even greater penalty for anyone who attacks the physical integrity of the presidents of the Republic, the Chamber and the Senate, in addition to the ministers of the STF (Federal Supreme Court).

Lira agreed that there should be some kind of regulation to punish attacks on politicians. “We have the right to differ, to think differently, to have different ideologies. We just don’t have the right to attack anyone for holding public office,” she said.

The parliamentarian stated that the matter has already been discussed in Congress through other bills. “We will have to see this as a rule, without any kind of privilege, but we cannot allow these things [agressões a políticos] continue to happen, especially to family members”.
