Lira schedules a trip and anticipates a vacation in the Chamber – 07/06/2023 – Politics

Parliamentarians claim that the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), informed party leaders that he had scheduled a private trip with his family for next week. For this to happen, he will promote, in practice, the anticipation and extension of a recess that, by law, the National Congress could not even take.

The Constitution determines that deputies and senators can only take their mid-year vacation —from July 19th to 31st— if the Chamber and Senate approve the budgetary guidelines bill in time, which will not happen this month.

Despite this, congressmen had already agreed to take the day off anyway, the so-called “white recess”. With the anticipation promoted by Lira, informal vacations will be longer, rising from two to three weeks.

Parliamentarians heard by Sheet stated that the mayor had expressed his intention to participate in the singer Wesley Safadão’s cruise, which will depart on Monday (10) from Florida (USA), passing through the so-called “exclusive island of Safadão in the Bahamas”.

“Let’s see the best shows in Brazil with Wesley Safadão, Bell Marques, Zé Neto & Cristiano, Dubdogz, Léo Santana, Murilo Huff, Eric Land, Marcynho Sensação, EME, Tirullipa and much more”, says the sales site when listing a series of attractions.

The website claims that the most expensive and exclusive cabins on the ship are already sold out. The cheapest, without a window, is sold for BRL 5,408 per person.

As president of the Chamber, it fell to Lira to convene a “concentrated effort” of the parliamentarians in Brasília for this week, from Monday to Friday, with the prediction of votes on the fiscal framework, which will bury the government’s spending ceiling, the new rules of the Carf, the last administrative sphere of tax disputes, and tax reform.

With that, several deputies heard by the Sheet stated that after this week they only intend to return to Brasília in August.

That is, the recess, which should start on the 19th, and only if the budget guidelines had been approved, should not only happen but be longer.

Deputies already take it for granted that the Chamber’s activities will end this Friday (7), regardless of whether or not the government’s priority agendas are approved.

A Sheet he sought Lira’s press office since Tuesday (4th), questioning the reason for extending vacations that, according to the Constitution, could not be taken, and whether he would even go to the “Safadão cruise”.

There was no confirmation or denial, just the statement that the deputy denies that he will travel this Friday, as reported privately by some parliamentarians.

Congressmen also said that another parliamentarian who will travel abroad next week is the leader of the União Brasil bench, Elmar Nascimento (BA), one of Lira’s main allies.

He and the mayor, for example, traveled to Portugal last week, for the legal seminar sponsored by the institute founded by the minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Gilmar Mendes.

Also on that occasion, the Chamber and the Senate were left for about 15 days without major activities, given that the evacuation of Brasília during the São João festivities had already become a tradition.

The deputy from Bahia asked members of his bench to make an effort to approve the tax reform by this Friday, so that deputies do not need to appear in the Chamber next week.

Asked by Sheet, Elmar confirmed that he will go to the United States, but did not give details. About going to the “Safadão cruise”, he neither confirmed nor denied his interest: “I don’t know, if they invite me, I might go, I really like it”.

The report also sent questions to its advisory since Tuesday, but there was no response.
