The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) and a series of governors did not respond to the call from President Lula (PT), the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the presidency of the Senate to participate in the ceremony that took place at the National Congress this Monday (8), in reference to the first year of the acts of January 8, 2023.

Lira explained her absence from the event due to family health problems. The parliamentarian’s absence was informed to President Lula (PT) on Sunday (7). Through social networksLira repudiated the acts of 8/1 and said that everyone involved “must be punished according to the law, within due legal process”.

Senator Renan Calheiros said he could not participate in the event due to medical “recommendation”. “Due to express medical restrictions after the surgery, I am unable to attend the event in defense of Democracy in Brasília. Remembering barbarity is not letting it be forgotten”, said the senator on social media.

A People’s Gazette found that the act also occurred with the absence of 15 governors. The following state representatives were absent:

6 – Paulo Dantas (MDB) – governor of Alagoas;
7 – Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil) – governor of Goiás;
8 – Mauro Mendes (União Brasil) – governor of Mato Grosso;
9 – Eduardo Riedel (PSDB) – governor of Mato Grosso do Sul;
10 – Ratinho Jr (PSD) – governor of Paraná;
11 – Romeu Zema (New) – governor of Minas Gerais
12 – Jorginho Mello (PL) – governor of Santa Catarina;
13 – Wilson Lima (União) – governor of Amazonas;
14 – Wanderlei Barbosa (Republicans) – governor of Tocantins;
15 – Colonel Marcos Rocha (União Brasil) – governor of Rondônia.

The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), withdrew from participating in the event after being the target of several criticisms made by members of the opposition. In a statement, Novo’s press office stated that the governor was “advised” to attend.
