Lewandowski receives OAB license and will be a lawyer – 04/12/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The retired minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Ricardo Lewandowski will receive this Wednesday (12) the card of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).

The delivery will be made by the institution’s president, Beto Simonetti, at the entity’s headquarters, where the former magistrate will be received for lunch. Lewandowski managed to keep the initial registration number in order: 33,174.

He is setting up a law firm in the central area of ​​Brasília. He must dedicate himself to giving opinions and also intends to act as a lawyer in cases that he considers relevant.

The minister retired on Tuesday (11), after 17 years at the Supreme Court.

During the period, he was notable for a guaranteeing position, which reinforces the right of defendants to full defense.
In office, he even chaired the STF, the Superior Electoral Court, the National Council of Justice and temporarily occupied the Presidency of the Republic.

He also commanded the Senate in the session that sanctioned the impeachment of then-president Dilma Rousseff (PT), in 2016.

When speaking to journalists in his farewell, Lewandowski said that he left the STF “with the conviction that I fulfilled my mission, I have practically zero cases in the office. new journeys”.

The STF minister wanted to highlight, in his 33 years in the judiciary —including his period as a judge—, the defense of the fundamental rights of the accused. He said that, throughout his career as a magistrate, he has always been guided by these principles and values.

Lewandowski’s replacement at the STF will be the first appointed by Lula (PT) in his third term. Until October, the President of the Supreme, Rosa Weber, will also have to retire.

The president’s favorite is lawyer Cristiano Zanin, who acted as his lawyer in the Lava Jato Operation cases.
