Leite seeks rapprochement with PSDB-SP in empty event – 04/27/2023 – Panel

A dinner scheduled by the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, to approach the PSDB of São Paulo this Wednesday (26) was attended by only six mayors and was considered a skid in political articulation for the current group President of the Toucan Party. In all, about 30 people attended.

Leite and the PSDB of São Paulo had quarrels in recent years, when the governor and his allies disputed the command of the party and the candidacy for the Presidency with João Doria.

More recently, the parties fell out due to internal conversations that the governor of Rio Grande do Sul would intervene in state and municipal directorates to place allies.

After leaving the command of the Government of São Paulo, at the head of which it was for 28 years, the PSDB has suffered with the departure of several municipal representatives, who have migrated to parties from the orbit of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

At this Wednesday’s meeting, Leite made a speech in which he tried to dismiss these rumors and said that he wants to make an internal union movement in the PSDB.

Raquel Chini (Praia Grande), Duarte Nogueira (Ribeirão Preto), Ademário Oliveira (Cubatão), Izaias Santana (Jacareí), Marcos Neves (Carapicuíba) and Paulo Serra (Santo André), political articulator of Leite in São Paulo, attended the dinner , as well as former mayors and parliamentarians.

Initially, the idea was to call mayors of the 12 largest cities administered by the PSDB. Afterwards, the invitation was extended to some other municipalities, such as Cubatão and Jacareí.

Senator Tasso Jereissati (CE), who is close to the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, also participated.

In private conversations, there were indirect exchanges. Allies of Leite said that the party was greatly harmed by not having launched a candidacy for the Presidency and criticized the party’s alleged disorganization in São Paulo. They were refuted by São Paulo representatives, who stated that many of those present contributed to the campaign being aborted by Doria and his group.

“It was an important meeting, the governor signaled opening and said he will respect the processes and decision-making of state and municipal directories”, says Fernando Alfredo.
