In commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day, celebrated on Tuesday, April 2, the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap), on the initiative of the president of the House, deputy Alliny Serrão (Unity), opened space in the grand opening hours for a performance by the Mundo Azul choir, made up of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEA).
The highlight of the presentation was young Robertinho, who has down syndrome and is autistic, who danced to the rhythm of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. A text produced by student Ana Clara Santos Gomes about autistic people was interpreted by the director of Centro Mundo Azul, Maria Marta Monteiro.
The president of Alap, Alliny Serrão, highlighted the House’s satisfaction in receiving the special audience. “We recognize the importance of this body in promoting legislation that strengthens the defense of autistic people and guarantees quality public services, aiming to continually strengthen service in the autism support network in Amapá. Furthermore, we seek to contribute to reducing prejudice and increasing awareness.”highlighted the president.
During the big session, space was opened for the psychologist specializing in autism, Ruany Andreia Rebis, and the lawyer Cassius Clay Carvalho, which addressed the achievements and difficulties of working with autistic people in Amapá. “In the future, we will have adults and elderly people within our state who are not receiving any type of therapy and support, this worries me”, highlighted the psychologist.
Espaço Mundo Azul, in the municipality of Santana, was established by the Government of the State of Amapá and its mission is to offer multidisciplinary care to teenagers. It currently serves more than 290 students in the educational and clinical fields. After the end of the session, deputies and House staff released blue balloons to remind people that awareness and respect are fundamental.
