Left uses hacker testimony to attack Bolsonaro

After being arrested by the Federal Police in Operation 3FA, this Wednesday (2), hacker Walter Delgatti Neto gave a statement to the police. According to CNN Brazil, he allegedly stated that former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) questioned whether it would be possible to hack an electronic ballot box. Despite Delgatti’s statement, no details or evidence about the statement were released.

After the information was disclosed, the hacker’s testimony began to be used by left-wing parliamentarians to attack former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Federal deputy and PT president, Gleise Hoffmann (PR), spoke of “collusion to discredit the polls”. “Bolsonaro knew that the hacker acted in collusion with the military to discredit ballot boxes. Bolsonaro will testify at the PF. (…) The life of scammers is not easy. They will pay!”, said the PT.

The accusations surfaced one day after the CPMI on January 8 deepened the revelations about the federal government’s omission in the episode. On Tuesday, the former deputy director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), Saulo Moura da Cunha, who admitted to having tampered with an intelligence report at the behest of the former head of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), general Marco Gonçalves Dias.

In an attempt to change the focus, government supporters now want to summon the hacker Walter Delgatti to testify at the CPMI on January 8th. At least four requests were presented to the collegiate this Wednesday (2). Voting on the requests depends on the decision of the president of the collegiate, deputy Arthur Maia (União-BA), in a meeting before the start of the session.

With regard to the attempt to invade the source code of the electronic voting machines, Delgatti said that he met with Bolsonaro at the Palácio da Alvorada, in Brasília. At the time, the former president would have asked if with the source code the hacker would be able to invade the electronic ballot box. But Delgatti informed that the plan did not go ahead, because “the access given by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to the source code “was only at the headquarters of the Court” and he “could not go there””, according to the CNN Brasil.

Also according to the website, the statement by Delgatti, investigated for invading systems of the Judiciary, is cited in the decision of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes, who authorized the operation this Wednesday.

The Federal Police, on the other hand, reported that the operation aimed to “clarify the performance of individuals in the invasion of the systems of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and the insertion of false documents and release permits in the National Bank of Arrest Warrants (BNMP). ”.

In testimony to the PF in June, Delgatti had already informed that he would have been demanded by Carla Zambelli, in September 2022, on the eve of the election, to try to invade an electronic ballot box or any justice system with the intention of showing the fragility of the devices. However, he said he would not be able to access the urn because the source code was not connected to a networked computer.

In this Wednesday’s testimony, Delgatti also spoke about Zambelli’s alleged participation and denied any other participation in the invasion of the CNJ system. He denied any involvement of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

According to Delgatti, upon learning that he had access to the CNJ system, Zambelli made a false text and issued an arrest warrant against Moraes. He also said that he received BRL 3,000 from the deputy to be available, and that, with the false draft, Zambelli would have leaked the document to a news portal.

Deputy Carla Zambelli, on the other hand, denied any involvement in the scheme and said that the only relationship she had with Delgatti was to hire technology services for her personal website. She said that she met him only three times and that she took him to talk to the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, to offer services to the party.

Seeing that he had a deep knowledge of technology, that he said he would like to participate in the audit processes of electronic voting machines in elections and that he wanted to meet the then president, Carla Zambelli took him to talk to Bolsonaro.
