Left parties seek to pressure rapporteur to change framework – 05/13/2023 – Panel

The forum of left-wing parties should meet next week with the rapporteur for the fiscal framework project in the Chamber, deputy Cláudio Cajado (PP-BA).
The idea is to present suggestions to give more flexibility to expenses and investments in the new rule. Among them, the withdrawal of items such as health, education and Bolsa Família, in addition to increasing the percentages for spending growth in real terms.
“We have a critical evaluation of the proposal. In addition to the parliamentary amendments, which are a legitimate resource of the Chamber and the Senate, we also want to present our arguments directly to the rapporteur. It is not possible for him to listen only to the side of businessmen and the financial market” , says the president of PSOL, Juliano Medeiros.
The forum brings together presidents and congressional leaders from PT, PSB, PDT, PSOL, PCdoB, PV and Rede.
Cajado has demonstrated that he can move in the opposite direction to that defended by the left, that is, to tighten the rules of the framework.
The leftist parties have not yet committed themselves to supporting the text sent by the Executive to Congress and say that this will depend on how the final wording of the project will look.
