Manaus (AM) – With the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in different fields of society, have you ever stopped to think about the impact of the tool on the educational sector? CEO of EduMaker Brasil, Jhony Abreu Silva intends to bring the topic to light with the lecture “Intelligent Education: how AI transforms task management in the classroom”, which will be presented on the second day of the IV Iberoamerican Global Education Week.

Aimed at teachers, educators, education and undergraduate students, the free virtual event takes place from November 13th to 16th on the website of the Latin American Alliance for Intercultural Education (composed of local AFS Intercultural Programs organizations in 14 countries. The entrepreneur and Amazonian pedagogue Jhony Abreu, creator of the startup focused on educational robotics, is one of the representatives from Brazil during the four days of the edition, which will focus this time on the challenges of education, faced with the use of emerging technologies.

According to Jhony, the desire to address the topic during the IV Iberoamerican Week of Global Education was encouraged by several factors: curricular relevance; student interests; current events; learning needs; educational innovation; developmental goals, such as critical thinking, problem solving, or creativity; and student feedback.

Challenges and Impacts

Although it is not a new technology, AI – a field of science that operates in the reproduction of human-like behavior patterns through devices and computer programs – has evolved significantly and is increasingly present in several areas, including education.
According to the CEO EduMaker Brasil, the application of AI in the classroom allows for more focused and agile management, thanks to the automation of repetitive tasks, virtual assistance, performance analysis, intelligent scheduling, immediate feedback, support for decision-making.

“There are a series of advantages, such as personalization of learning: through the analysis of student data, AI can create individual learning profiles, identifying strengths and weaknesses. This allows educators to tailor their teaching to meet each student’s specific needs. Another point is the forecast of needs. Based on historical data and performance patterns, AI can predict future classroom needs, enabling better preparation and planning. And we still have the customization of Teaching Resources. AI can recommend specific teaching materials, activities and resources for each student based on their learning style and interests, enriching the learning experience,”

Passionate about innovation, technology and student-focused educational methodologies, he makes it clear that there are also some disadvantages to the tool, including: algorithmic bias (“which can lead to unfair or discriminatory results, especially if they are not carefully trained and monitored ”); affection for students’ privacy; excessive depersonalization (“excessive reliance on AI can result in a depersonalized learning experience where human interaction and empathy are lost”); unemployment of teachers; costs and limited access; need for training; technological dependence.

According to Jhony, with due balance and the use of AI as a complementary and not a substitute tool, the benefits will be greater.

“Artificial Intelligence in Education is already a reality and, with caution and responsibility, it can be a great ally for teaching and learning.”
