Federal deputy Eli Borges (PL-TO), one of the leaders of the evangelical group in the Chamber, said this Wednesday (7) that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva still “did not understand the importance of evangelicals” for having refused the invitation of the March for Jesus. The event will be held on Thursday (8), Corpus Christi holiday, in São Paulo.

“The president has not yet understood the importance of the evangelical people in Brazil… Due to the importance of the event, the feeling is that he needs to re-discuss the concept of the evangelical people”, said Borges in an interview with the newspaper “The State of S. Paulo”.

Lula declined the invitation this Tuesday (6) in a letter sent to the apostle Estevam Hernandes, from the organization of the event. The representative said he was honored, but stated that it will not be possible to participate this year. The president relayed the invitation to federal deputy Benedita da Silva (PT-RJ) and minister Jorge Messias, from the Attorney General’s Office (AGU).
