‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ has fun with a great villain, but has few new features; g1 already seen

Fourth adventure of the Dragon Warrior has characters voiced by Lucio Mauro Filho and Taís Araújo. Animation is a good option for children, but it has flaws in the script and technical aspects. After “Kung Fu Panda 3” was released in 2016, it seemed like the franchise would end. It gave the impression that the series had more to show the audience. But in Hollywood, endings are relative. The fourth animation starring the clumsy panda Po (once again voiced by Lucio Mauro Filho in the Portuguese version and by Jack Black in the subtitled version) has good jokes, well-done action scenes and interesting new characters. Even so, it leaves the feeling that the franchise has seen better days. To make matters worse, he needs to find someone to replace him as Dragon Warrior before assuming his new position. But Po has to deal with a new threat that appears in the Valley of Peace. A sorceress known as Camaleoa (voiced by Taís Araújo in the Brazilian version and by Viola Davis in the original), capable of transforming into any creature, wants to dominate the place using your magic. She wishes to defeat the Dragon Warrior by using the fighting techniques of all the opponents he has defeated in the past. Director Mike Mitchel, who signed “Shrek Forever After” (another quarter of a well-known Dreamworks animation), doesn’t seem to be worried about adding elements to make his film more original. At least, the animators did a great job creating the scenarios and landscapes. Where are the Furious Five? The warriors who fight alongside the protagonist have always stood out in fights and as “ladders” for Po to shine with his jokes. In “Kung Fu Panda 4”, the Furious Five are poorly used. The script prefers to highlight Po’s relationship with a new character, Zhen (Danni Suzuki/Awkwafina), a fox with light hands (or paws). She decides to help Po face the Chameleon. Although this friendship makes for good times, the duo doesn’t have the grace or chemistry of the relationship with the Furious Five. At least Master Shifu continues to play a significant role in the plot. Some supporting characters, such as Po’s parents and a trio of bunnies (cute and fans of violence) also guarantee fun. The best surprise is the villain Camaleoa, who becomes a real obstacle for the gluttonous hero. Cruel and treacherous, she is one of the few successes of the writers, who deliver a story with somewhat predictable twists. Lucio Mauro Filho, even though he sets a different tone compared to what has been heard before, is very comfortable voicing Po. Danni Suzuki does a good job as Zhen and deserves to be used in future projects. Taís Araújo tries hard, but isn’t as exciting as Camaleoa. Even with sound effects to give her a more reptilian voice, the actress’s vocal performance is not as striking as it should be. “Kung Fu Panda 4” is a film to fulfill schedules and mark territory. There’s nothing new, but it should make children happy and guarantee future episodes. The point is that such a charismatic character deserved more whimsy.
