Kassio Nunes releases action against arms policy – 03/26/2023 – Panel

Three months after the departure of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) from the Presidency, the Minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Kassio Nunes Marques released a lawsuit related to one of the main Bolsonarist agendas: the arms policy. The shares have been stuck in his office by a view request since September 2021.

Since then, civil society organizations have been pressuring the minister for the release, so that the trials can be resumed. Although the released action is not the most important, these entities interpreted the gesture as a change of posture and a sign that the minister should soon release the others as well.

The action whose judgment can be resumed from Friday (24), ADPF 774, questions a resolution of the Executive Management Committee of the Foreign Trade Chamber of the Ministry of Economy that zeroed the import rate for revolvers and pistols. Before, it was 20%.

In all, there are 12 processes trying to overturn points of measures and decrees of the previous management, which were being judged in a block and were interrupted by Kassio. Part of Bolsonarist policy was overthrown on January 1, when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), in his repeal, made access to restricted weapons more difficult, but a good part remains pending analysis by the STF.

The expectation is that, based on these judgments, Bolsonaro’s measures will be left behind. On the last 10th, the STF judged actions that questioned Lula’s decree and the decision was for constitutionality, with 10 favorable votes, including Kassio’s. Only André Mendonça was against it.
