Although it is not officially part of the base of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the União Brasil must vote in favor of the government proposals that are forwarded to Congress, according to Minister Juscelino Filho, of Communications, this Monday (6).
The statement was given shortly after a meeting with the president in which he had to explain himself about the allegations of irregular use of flights by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and daily rates paid by the Union for personal commitments among officials. Lula decided to keep him in office.
The relationship between União Brasil and the president was strained after criticism from the national president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, about the accusations involving Juscelino. Party leaders in Congress went public over the weekend to refute a speech by the PT that the minister should ask for removal from office.
However, Juscelino says that the party “will deliver the votes and support of the majority of its benches to the president, both in the Chamber and in the Federal Senate, as it delivered in the PEC of the transition that enabled the government to have a bold plan of growth. The legislature is just getting started.”
“União Brasil is going to be a great partner alongside the government, helping with important issues in the country, such as tax reform,” he said in an interview with CNN Brasil.
In addition to Communications, União Brasil also owns the Ministry of Tourism, with Daniela Carneiro, and Waldez Góes (PDT) is nominated for National Integration. Even with this presence on the Esplanada and guaranteeing the base of the third largest group in the Chamber, Juscelino says that the “independence” of the party is a way of expressing itself.
“This has been going on since the end of last year. the party chairman [Luciano Bivar] He put himself in that position, but he made up the government and today he has a majority within the party that will support the base that will support and vote with the government’s matters in Congress”, he reinforced.
