Former minister José Dirceu has been hospitalized since Monday (26) at Hospital Sírio-Libanês, in São Paulo, with a diagnosis of pneumonia.
According to the hospital, he is stable and is not expected to be discharged. Dirceu is under the care of Roberto Kalil Filho.
Federal deputy Zeca Dirceu (PT-PR), son of the former PT leader, confirmed the hospitalization and said that Dirceu is fine.
Dirceu, 77, has been away from public office since the 2000s, when he was head of the Civil House of the first Lula government and had his mandate as federal deputy revoked in the wake of the Mensalão scandal.
More recently, the former minister returned to making public statements and attending political events. In January, he attended the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement), in Greater São Paulo, where he was applauded and grouped by activists.
At the time, he said that, in 2026, he would talk to the PT and “make a decision about what I’m going to do”. “I don’t have the definition,” he told SheetIn this ocasion.
