João Campos refutes accusations against his father: “It has no foundation”

The mayor of Recife, João Campos (PSB), said that “there is no basis” for a complaint by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) about his father, Eduardo Campos, having received bribes in an account in Switzerland. In a note, João recalled that the accusation that surfaced in recent days was suspended by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), in a decision by Minister Ricardo Lewandowski.

“Eduardo Campos was a man of integrity, correctness and dedicated to the missions given to him by the people. His righteousness was a mark that accompanied him throughout his public life, guided, above all, by his tireless struggle to combat different forms of inequality My father was always motivated by the desire to make, as he used to say, the machine grind for those who need it most”, said João.

The complaint brought to light, this Saturday (8/4), is a development of the one presented by Operation Lava-Jato, in June 2022. The prosecution accuses Eduardo Campos of receiving BRL 771,500 in bribes as a form of payment to an alleged favoritism to contractor Odebrecht between 2007 and 2014.

“Eduardo Campos was elected, several times, the best governor in Brazil, being re-elected with the highest percentage in history. This can only be achieved by those who are honest, dedicated, competent, doing well for those who need it most”, completed João Campos.

Eduardo Campos died in 2014, victim of a plane crash, weeks before the first round of the presidential election of that year. Campos was a pre-candidate for the election, which ended up electing Dilma Rousseff (PT).
