Lawyer and former state deputy Janaina Paschoal criticized this Friday (16) the decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that requires Covid vaccination in children and adolescents, without giving parents the right to decide.

This Thursday (15), Minister Cristiano Zanin suspended decrees from 20 municipalities in Santa Catarina that waived the requirement for a vaccine against Covid-19 for enrollment and re-enrollment in the public education network.

“The STF made a mistake by taking away parents’ autonomy regarding their children’s anti-Covid vaccination. It is up to the State to make it available and up to parents to decide. Especially when it comes to a disease that does not severely affect healthy children and adolescents; and a vaccine that is not mandatory for this public anywhere in the world”, declared the lawyer.

According to Janaina, before the STF decided on the matter, it should have asked “the Ministry of Health for explanations about the reasons for adopting a policy that goes against the policy adopted by other nations”.

“In addition to the discussion regarding family autonomy and the weighing up between the risks and benefits of this mass immunization, it should be remembered that the billions spent on these vaccines could be invested in improvements to public health itself, which is so lacking in the most diverse areas” , added the lawyer.
