Everything wrong with Corinthians and their hiring of Cuca. But some things sounded even more glaring in the catastrophic six days that the discredited coach lasted for alvinegro. For example, the president says that the club “studied” the case before closing with the coach. Where did he study? What part of the Barsa encyclopedia showed that Cuca was innocent of the rape case? Probably not even the 1987 Barsa.

Then, shortly before the announcement of the termination of the contract, many of the players (I won’t say all, but most) went to show solidarity with the coach, and the one who came to speak most vehemently was striker Róger Guedes.

“Unfortunately, we live in a time when people judge, put their finger on a lot and don’t let the person prove their innocence. (…) Ana Thaís [Matos, comentarista dos canais Globo], talks a lot. Particularly in me it hits a lot, for no reason. I mentioned Ana Thaís because she is one of the people who attacked Cuca a lot. Does she have evidence to back him up? She has no evidence to speak of him. So what does she want to judge? Surely she’s already made a lot of mistakes in her life too”, said the striker.

He later stated that the quote was nothing personal and that he was not sexist.

Around 450 journalists criticized the signing of Cuca by Corinthians. Roger decided to name just one, in this case a woman. But he still thinks it’s not personal or sexist. “I have a daughter, right? God forbid [ser machista]”.

It is impressive how many players, like Róger Guedes, are ignorant and/or poorly advised. In what universe has Roger still not understood that no journalist needs to prove anything about Cuca? Swiss justice did the job. He judged and condemned. The only thing missing from the whole process was the execution of the sentence by the condemned (a mere 15 months, for sexually attacking a 13-year-old girl).

If someone needs to prove something, in this case, the alleged innocence, it’s Cuca. And the coach, who had a very profitable professional life, has only now decided to hire lawyers to try to reverse his conviction… 36 years after the case. It is curious to note that none of the other three Gremistas involved has spoken out or wants to reverse the conviction.

Until then, Cuca should no longer work as a coach in Brazil. Which is still a much milder sentence than the crime for which he was convicted.

Meanwhile, Corinthians will continue to depend on Roger. Skilled player, with great finishing power and boring as hell on the pitch. Talks (complains) to the referee all the time. He loves running to VAR, next to the referee, on every call. Last time it finally took a card. Now it should be quieter.

In the defeat against Palmeiras, apparently what made him more irritated was the fact that the judge Wilton Pereira Sampaio marked the Corinthians goal as an own goal (by lateral Piquerez) and not as his. Dissatisfied, he went to the referees’ locker room (which is prohibited) to try to reverse the goal for him, as if that would change something in the outcome of the game.

His tactical posture on the field, especially when the team needs to defend, is also questioned from time to time. Anyway, Róger needs to evolve as a player (which is why he “beats” Ana Thaís and others) and as a human being. And it’s nothing personal.
