Invasion of Beira-Rio: child will undergo expertise – 03/28/2023 – Sport

The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Sul detailed, this Tuesday (28), the next steps of the investigation into the case of the Internacional fan who invaded the lawn of the Beira-Rio stadium with a three-year-old child on his lap and fought with Caxias players on Sunday night (26), after the semifinal between the two teams for the Campeonato Gaúcho.

The 33-year-old man, as an investigator, and his wife, as a witness, gave testimonies late Monday afternoon (27), accompanied by lawyer Taiane Paixão. He responds to two separate inquiries, for his conduct with his daughter and for the invasion of the field and aggression against a cameraman.

A Sheet tried to contact the lawyer this Tuesday, without success. At the end of the statement, on Monday, she said that her client acted “to protect her daughter”. The man’s identity is being preserved so as not to expose the girl.

In the civil sphere, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Canoas requested a protective measure that could distance the girl from her father, but there was still no response from Justice. A hearing was also requested with the Tutelary Council and the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance in Canoas.

According to police chief Elisa Ferreira de Souza, from the 2nd DPCA (Delegation for the Protection of Children and Adolescents) in Porto Alegre, who is in charge of the investigation into possible violations of the ECA (Child and Adolescent Statute), the couple left the police station with two requests for expertise to assess whether the girl had physical or psychological sequelae from the episode.

The first expertise, according to the Civil Police, is quick and can be done as soon as the mother appears with the child at the police station. Psychic expertise, on the other hand, involves a series of interviews, with a result that takes longer.

According to the police, the child’s mother was not at the stadium at the time of the fight. She would have seen the images live on TV and called her husband “terrified”. He picked up after the fight, on the way home, saying everything was fine.

In testimony, the fan denied that he had invaded the field. He said that, because he was being pressured in the confusion by other fans and had a child on his lap, a Beira-Rio security guard opened the gate for him to enter the lawn.

He told the police that, in the field, feeling threatened, he struck at random to protect his daughter. According to the police, he showed no regret in her testimony.

For delegate Fernando Sodré, head of the Civil Police of RS, “there are images that speak for themselves”, contesting the man’s version. Before concluding the investigation, the police want to hear from the three Internacional security guards who restrained the fan and a family member who accompanied the father and daughter at the stadium. The delegate drew attention to the risk to which the girl was exposed.

“He attacked the player [do Caxias] from behind. If he instinctively reacted against the attacker, he could have hit the child squarely,” said Sodré.

The fan will respond in court for “submitting his daughter to humiliation and embarrassment”, with a penalty of six months to two years in prison. In the second investigation, referring to the aggression against the cameraman, he will answer for light bodily injury and for invading the field, with penalties that can also reach two years of imprisonment. He was suspended from Inter’s membership and prevented from entering the stadium.

Unlike what was initially reported by the police, the man was no longer part of organized supporters since 2019. According to the police, father and daughter used to go to Beira-Rio frequently, eventually in the company of their mother, who is a Grêmio fan. On Sunday, the girl got excited and asked to accompany her father after seeing him getting ready for the game against Caxias.

Sodré also said that he has a meeting scheduled with Luciano Hocsman, president of the Gaucho Football Federation, to discuss measures against violence in Rio Grande do Sul football.

In 2022, Beira-Rio and its surroundings had two other episodes of violence: a stone thrown at the Grêmio bus, injuring a player, on February 19, and a phone thrown at the face of an opposing player, on March 26, during celebrating a goal in the Gre-Nal derby.
