Insper (Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa), from São Paulo, announced this Thursday (1st) Guilherme Martins as its new president, replacing Marcelo Knobel, who leaves the position due to differences with the deliberative council, according to its own higher education institution.
Martins has been a professor at Insper since 2009 and coordinated the undergraduate course in administration before taking over as director of undergraduate courses in 2020. He graduated in business administration from the Federal University of Viçosa, in Minas Gerais. Afterwards, he completed a master’s and doctorate in the area of Operations Management and Competitiveness at FGV-Eaesp, with a doctoral exchange period at the WP Carey School of Business, at Arizona State University, in the United States.
“I know the responsibility I’m taking on and I’m very happy to deserve the confidence of the deliberative board”, Martins said to the Insper website. “I am ready for the challenge of leading this institution, to which I am proud to belong, into a new phase of growth and improvement.”
According to a note published on Insper’s official website, Marcelo Knobel took charge of the institute on March 1 of this year after a selection process. In the last three months, however, differences regarding the prioritization of some strategic objectives appeared between him and the deliberative council. “By mutual agreement, both parties decided that the best thing to do would be to interrupt the contract”, says the note.
The institute’s statement also announced the promotion of Marcelo Orticelli, from director of Education for Executives and Development to vice president. At Insper since 2018, he holds a degree in business administration from PUC-SP and completed a master’s in administration from FGV-SP, with an extension at the University of Austin, Texas.
“It is a great challenge, the success of which will only be possible with the engagement and integration of the teams. The choice of the board recognizes that we have talent with the potential to do a great job at home, as is the case of Guilherme”, commented Orticelli.
