If Flamengo was not physically well in the Club World Cup due to the short season and few games played, this scenario could change in favor of the red-and-black in the Recopa Sudamericana. That’s because Independiente del Valle, opponent in the final, played only one official match before disputing the title.
In 2023, the Ecuadorians played two pre-season matches: the friendlies against San Lorenzo (ARG) and Deportivo Maldonado (URU), on January 15 and 18, respectively. In the first match, a 0-0 tie, in the second, a 2-1 defeat.
The only official match took place on February 11, for the Super Cup of Ecuador, the Ecuadorians entered the field against Aucas (EQU) and triumphed by 3-0.
Flamengo and Independiente del Valle decide the Recopa Sudamericana in two games, the first being next Tuesday, at the Banco Guayaquil Stadium, in Ecuador. The return match will be on February 28, also a Tuesday.
