Incra must act before the MST, says Lula in a nod to the agro to try to avoid land invasions

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said, this Tuesday morning (27), that the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra) needs to work to anticipate invasions by the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST).

The statement was given during the broadcast of the third weekly live, which started with a technical problem without audio, and had an audience of just over 6,800 people.

The speech was a new nod to agribusiness to try to convince the MST, a former militancy ally, not to promote more land invasions – and, with that, avoid further criticism from businessmen.

“Why do we have to wait for the MST to invade the land for Incra to act later”, questioned the president.

Lula says he is in talks with the institute to carry out a survey of unproductive and unoccupied lands owned by the Union in order to anticipate the demands of the movement, setting up a sort of “shelf of projects”. Why the state doesn’t put together a shelf of unproductive land projects.

“Instead of invading, we organize”, he said, recalling that he did not think about it in the first two terms and that now he must carry it out.

In addition to asking Incra to put together this “shelf of projects”, Lula said that he always needs to think about what he says so as not to displease one side or the other – in reference to small, medium and large producers.

He also stated that he is working to reimplant the policy of regulating food stocks with the Ministries of Agrarian Development (MDA) and of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), and on how to take products from small and medium farmers to supermarkets.

During this Tuesday’s live (27), the president also criticized the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, for maintaining the basic interest rate at 13.75% decided last week. Lula also commented on the holding of COP30 in Belém, in 2025, which invited French President Emmanuel Macron to participate.
