Incentive to Tourism: Government seeks cooperation to revitalize Amapá Air Base – News of Brazil

The governor Clécio Luís and the commander of the First Regional Air Command (Eat) of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) brigadier major José Avelar, met on Wednesday, 13th, to discuss the restructuring of the historic space of the Amapá Air Base. Interventions at the site are foreseen in the Government Plan to strengthen tourism in the state.
The project also foresees the creation of a space museum that presents elements of the history of Amapá and Brazil. The Air Base was built by the United States in the municipality of Amapá to provide support during the Second World War, due to its strategic location, close to the Atlantic Ocean. When the conflict came to an end, the structure was returned to the Brazilian government.
Now, the Government of Amapá and the Air Force are seeking to revitalize the space, as a way of valuing the memory of Amapá aviation and strengthening tourism in the municipality of Amapá, which is around 300 kilometers from the capital, in the so-called Lagos Region. The next step to implement the partnership is the formalization of a Cooperation Agreement establishing the actions of each institution.
“We want to organize a strategy to make that space suitable for tourism and, with the help of Comar and other institutions, we will be able to restructure the entire environment, which is of great importance in the historical context of Amapá”highlighted Clécio Luís.
The Comar commander highlighted that the institution is available to work in partnership with the Government of Amapá. “We will work to enhance the tourist potential and history of this space. The state can count on us to carry out all the necessary activities to put this project into practice”declared Major Brigadier Avellar.
The meeting was attended by the Secretaries of State for Tourism, Syntia Lamarão; transport, Valdinei Amanajás; and Infrastructure, David Covre; in addition to the head of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), colonel Elvis Murilo.
