Even in the midst of the turbulence that involved his portfolio at the beginning of the government, the Minister of Defense, José Múcio, has not neglected his political base, the state of Pernambuco.

Former federal deputy for five terms, he has received politicians in his cabinet with some frequency, most of them from Pernambuco. Even some of lesser expression, such as councilors, managed to find space.

Last Monday (30), for example, Múcio had a meeting with Chico Bandeira (PSB), councilor of Ingazeira, a city of 4,500 inhabitants in the backlands of Pernambuco.

“I’ve known the minister since the 2000s. I was the one who asked for the audience, to tell him that everything he did was fundamental for things to start walking without hatred, to return to normal”, says the councilor, in relation to the reaction to the attacks coups that took place in Brasilia on January 8.

The official agenda says that the audience lasted 45 minutes, but the councilor claims that in fact there were about 15 minutes of conversation. “It’s not very common for us to talk to a minister, I’d like everyone to have that attitude,” says Bandeira.

Another state councilor who had an audience with the minister was Jorge Quintino (Solidariedade), from Caruaru, who made a “courtesy visit” on January 17. He was accompanied by Senator Rogerio Carvalho (PT-SE).

Parliamentarians from Pernambuco like Federal Deputies Augusto Coutinho (Republicans) and Fernando Monteiro (PP) and Senators Fernando Bezerra and Fernando Dueire (both from the MDB), as well as Governor Raquel Lyra (PSDB), received twice .

Former Minister of Institutional Relations in Lula’s second government, Mucio always had good connections with different parties.

He also opened his office to politicians from other states, such as federal deputies Erika Kokay (PT-DF), Marcelo Crivella (Republicanos-RJ) and Jeronimo Goergen (PP-RS).

Múcio’s political activity took place in the midst of a succession of crises that he had to manage in January, triggered by the invasion of the headquarters of the Three Powers. The minister even had his resignation requested by PT members and had to change the commander of the Army by order of Lula.

Through his advisory, Múcio stated that the courtesy visits took place especially in the last week of January, due to the presence of several parliamentarians in Brasília with the return of Congress activities.
