Team took first step towards reconstruction after losing titles in a row
Flamengo, with a goal from Pedro from a penalty, beat Bahia at Maracanã this Saturday (30), in a game valid for the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship.
It was the red and black team’s first match after the dismissal of Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli. The board and team were booed by the fans during part of the game.
The duel was balanced until the expulsion of defender Kanu, from Bahia, who fouled Gerson when the midfielder was heading towards the goal, at the beginning of the second half. Referee Savio Pereira Sampaio was called by the VAR and, after analyzing the move, exchanged the yellow card for a red card, leaving Tricolor Bahia with one player less.
With a numerical advantage on the field, Flamengo didn’t take long to score the winning goal. Bruno Henrique was hit by Gilberto inside the area and Savio Pereira Sampaio scored a penalty. Pedro took the shot and scored his 98th goal with the red-black shirt.
The victory made Flamengo reach 43 points in the table and move up to fourth place. Bahia remains at 25 and occupies first place in the relegation zone.
Awaiting the possible arrival of Tite as the new coach, Flamengo will face Corinthians in the next round of the Brasileirão, at Neo Química Arena, next Saturday (7).
Also on Saturday, Rogério Ceni’s Bahia faces Goiás, a direct rival in the fight against relegation, in the capital of Goiás.
