After success in 2023, state school holds journey that accompanies high school students in the 2024 school year

Manaus (AM) — The Isaías Vasconcelos State School, located in Iranduba (27 kilometers from Manaus) started the 2024 edition of the “A Caminho da Universidade” project, whose main objective is to encourage and support high school students, especially finalists, to participate entrance exams for admission to higher education courses. With the initiative, the school intends to continue the success of 2023, when students stood out in their essays and passed the entrance exams.

Created by the director of the teaching unit, Francimary Macedo, the project accompanies students at all stages of the entrance exams, from registration in the process, to the day of the tests. With this, the director emphasizes that the idea is to reduce the inequalities faced by students.

During the school year, students participate in preparatory classes and vocational guidance, all possible thanks to teachers and other volunteer staff. On the day of the exams, students have transportation, motivational support, food, water and kit to take the tests.

The director explains that, this year, more than 30 volunteer professionals are involved in the project, providing support to students, including those who need special assistance.

“These professionals hold preparatory classes on Saturdays throughout the year, and the school is prepared to welcome them, together with the students, with food and all the teaching material necessary for the success of the activities. On entrance exam days, the school, through the project, provides land and river transport, serving students who live in riverside communities and branches”,

comments Francimary.

This year’s edition began on April 6, the first Saturday of the month.

In 2024, the school’s 840 high school students are participating in the project, divided according to grade level. In the current phase, the school is focused on making students’ requests for exemption from the National High School Examination (Enem) Assessment and carrying out the Continuous Selection Process at the Federal University of Amazonas (PSC-Ufam – Stages 1 and 2), which take place in the month of May.

Inclusion

School teacher and volunteer Rita de Cássia da Silva highlights the importance of including the “A Caminho da Universidade” Project. According to the educator, with the support of the school, students with disabilities feel more prepared when taking entrance exams.

“This makes me very pleased to have the opportunity to be part of this process, which is the inclusion of students with disabilities alongside their other classmates in preparatory courses”, highlights teacher Rita de Cássia.

Final year student Thiago Felipe, who is deaf, signed in Libras, with the help of the interpreter teacher, about his perspective for studies. “I intend to train as an agricultural engineer and help my family. I’m very happy with the inclusion. I believe that people with disabilities are capable of entering college, as we have equal rights”, says the young man.

Incentive

The “A Caminho da Universidade” project was developed to encourage and prepare students for entrance exams, such as the PSC at Ufam, in addition to the Serial Entry System of the State University of Amazonas (SIS), the entrance exam/UEA and Enem.

The school decided to continue the project, after highlighting the 2023 finalists, who achieved top marks in their subjects, and outstanding results in Writing. In total, ten students went to public universities and another 114 students to private colleges, through Enem, in various courses, such as Engineering, Oil and Gas, Accounting, Law and Social Service.
