Estimated value of confiscated items reaches R$ 400 million. The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) announced this Thursday (8) that it withdrew more than 1.4 million TV Boxes from circulation. The estimated value of these seized devices amounts to almost R$ 400 million. The action against piracy is part of the agency’s Plan to Combat the Use of Clandestine Decoders and aims to curb the use of non-approved Box TVs, that is, those that do not have a certificate of conformity for safe use. The inspection observed the offer of this type of pirated product on the internet and at popular fairs. The TV Box is a device connected to the internet that, in a pirated way, gives access to movies, series or television channels. The Brazilian Association of Pay-TV estimates that, per year, the impact of piracy on pay-TV costs BRL 15 billion. Last year, Anatel had already issued a warning about the use of this illegal equipment and found the presence of malware (a kind of virus) that is capable of capturing user data such as financial records, files and photos.
