In a year of activity, FME supports the training of new talents and athletes in Manaus

Officialized on June 7, 2022, the Manaus Sport Foundation (FME) completed one year this month and the city hall made a positive assessment of the projects promoted within the Municipal Education Secretariat (Semed).

“I am passionate about sports and, in my management, it is a fundamental point, because it is directly linked to health, quality of life. The Manaus Sport Foundation was created with the aim of centralizing and expanding the practice of sports to all citizens of our city, whether for leisure or high performance. Since the beginning, our goal has been to make Manaus an increasingly sporty city”, highlighted the mayor.

The CEO Aurilex Moreira coordinates the actions and directs the programs since the creation of the FME. For him, the first year of work delivered expressive results and “prepared the ground” for new achievements in the second year.

“It took 365 hard days, a lot of work, and we are proud of what has been built so far. Manaus, today, has several options for sports and places to exercise. In addition, our talents have shown their worth in national and international tournaments with our support. Grassroots sport has also been looked upon fondly. We know that there is still a long way to go, and our city is a place of great potential, which breathes sport and collaborates for this”, evaluated Aurilex.

Manaus Esportiva

A macro project by the Manaus Sport Foundation, “Manaus Esportiva” was born practically along with the transition and, since then, has been offering sports activities to children, young people and the elderly in 17 centers spread throughout the capital. In the coming months, the number is expected to increase to 50.

Sports such as football, swimming, futsal, volleyball, handball, basketball, badminton, martial arts and others are available for new students to join. So far, approximately 4,000 people have benefited from the activities.

Sport in the Community

The City Hall reached the outskirts with the “Sport na Comunidade” program, which consists of granting kits with sports equipment to projects in the neighborhoods and communities of Manaus, which need these materials to continue their activities.

In the week in which the FME completed one year, the program reached the mark of 200 social projects served in all areas of the city, totaling more than 22 thousand people directly benefited.

The coordinator of Sport in the Community is former soccer player Roberto Dinamite, who took the first steps in a social project years ago and knows very well the relevance of the initiative in the lives of those who want to achieve great heights.

“Sports in the Community has had a great impact on the lives of children, young people and teenagers, and it ends up fueling the dream. When the kits are delivered, in the hugs and smiles of those contemplated, we can feel the satisfaction of communities that have never been seen. Reaching the mark of 200 social projects attended is a great achievement for the entire administration, which works on behalf of the communities”.

Olympic Manaus

As a way to encourage athletes who envision a successful future in sport, the “Manaus Olímpica” was created. The program captures and receives the highlights of “Manaus Esportiva”, so that they are supported by the municipal power and can develop their skills in high performance.

Once qualified to compete in national and international competitions, or even called up for the Brazilian national team, Manaus Olímpica athletes are awarded air tickets to seek great results.

The most expressive delivery took place in April of this year. In all, 42 athletes went through a selection process and traveled, with the support of the city hall, to São Paulo, where the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship took place. The Manaus delegation returned home with 22 medals.

Manaus Olímpica also offered trips to competitors in other sports, such as swimming, running, badminton, futsal, muay thai, judo, flag football, rowing, tennis, table tennis, among others.

“It is a very successful program. We have already awarded almost 200 airline tickets so that our local talents could compete on the same level against the big centers of the country. The long-term projection is that we will have athletes from our land competing in the Olympics”, said Paulo Israel, program coordinator.

Track Released

A continuous program by the city hall, the Free Range was definitively resumed after the pandemic and expanded in this first year of FME, reaching the North zone, with the opening of a new point on Avenida das Torres, on Monday nights, since January this year.

In addition, the traditional project takes place on Wednesdays and Sundays at the Ponta Negra tourist complex, West zone, and on Tuesdays, at the Viver Melhor complex, in the Santa Etelvina neighborhood, North zone, offering various physical activities to the Manaus population. Radical Liberated Track, slope in Parque das Laranjeiras.

The program coordinator, João Paulo, talks about the progress of the Liberated Belt and how the projection of an even greater expansion is going, making it reach the east zone of Manaus.

“After the pandemic, we were able to expand and enhance the Liberated Track, with a new visual identity, stage quality, sound and most importantly: trained teachers teaching classes. Our desire is to expand even further to all zones and make it available in all parts of Manaus”, he said.
