Images from 8/1 are insufficient to destroy the biography of the former GSI minister, says Padilha – 04/20/2023 – Politics

The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, came out this Thursday (20) in defense of the former GSI minister Gonçalves Dias and stated that the images of January 8 are not enough to “destroy a person’s biography”.

“General Gonçalves Dias has a biography, he has a history, any edition, any leaked video is not enough to destroy a person’s biography”, said Padilha in an interview with journalists.

The minister also said that he was surprised that the images blurred the faces of the other agents that were shown in the images inside the Planalto Palace, but that the same treatment was not given to the general.

A week after the January 8 attacks, the government released edited videos, in particular with excerpts that showed that the militants were allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). However, he refused a request from the Sheetvia the Access to Information Act, to release the entirety of the recordings.

Padilha also said that the disclosure of images from the security circuit of the Planalto Palace creates a “new political situation”.

The government, he argues, will now support the installation of a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) to investigate the coup acts.

Padilha gave an interview to journalists at the Planalto Palace, one day after the departure of the head of the GSI.

Gonçalves Dias handed in his resignation to President Lula this Wednesday afternoon, pressured and worn out by the dissemination of images from the internal security circuit of the Planalto —which called into question the performance of the GSI and himself in confronting the invaders.

Hours earlier, CNN Brasil released images showing the vandals receiving water from a GSI agent and calmly interacting with the military during the invasion of the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.

In the videos, General Gonçalves Dias himself walks around the third floor of the palace, in the anteroom of the President of the Republic’s office, while the acts took place on the floor below.
